Nasi Lemak wrapped in banana leaves

Nasi Lemak is a dish sold in Brunei, SIngapore, Malaysia, Riau Islands and Southern Thailand. The dish is considred a national dish and a national heritage of Malaysia. It is usually eaten during breakfast but can also be found by people eating at any time of the day. With roots in Malay culture, its name means literally " fatty rice ". Nasi Lemak is widely eaten in Singapore and Malaysia . It is also usually served in Malaysian schools. Nasi Lemak Kukus is another name for "steamed nasi lemak ".

Traditionally, Nasi Lemak is served with rice with cucumber slices, ikan bilis, roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg and hot spicy sambal and is wrapped in banana leaves. Nasi Lemak can also be served with chicken, cockles, cuttlefish and kangkong .
